Univ. of Maryland

I began teaching at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 1974 and have been a faculty member there ever since. My tenure includes a two-year leave of absence to work in the Justice Department as the Associate Deputy Attorney General. Additionally, I've taken one-semester visits to teach at the University of Mississippi, North Carolina Central University, and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Currently, I am the longest-tenured professor at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, the first Black tenured professor, and namesake of Gibson-Banks Center for Race and the Law.
