Baltimore School Board 1968-1975
I was appointed to the Baltimore School Board by Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro, serving from January 1969 until December 1975. During this period, I was the youngest person to be appointed to the board, which was overseeing a much larger school system at that time. This era was marked by significant change and turmoil across the country, especially in Maryland. One of the key achievements during my tenure was the appointment of Roland N. Patterson as Baltimore's first black superintendent.
